Director of Publishing

Our client is a society publisher based in the South West of England. They are now looking to hire a Director of Publishing for their team there. The society, however, is based in London and this role will have both responsibilities for successfully running the publishing division alongside being an important member of the Senior Management Team within the society. For the right candidate there will be flexibility on location but travel to the South West (Bristol/Bath area) as well as London, is critical on a weekly basis.

The Director of Publishing will report into the Executive Secretary who runs the society. There are 20 people in the publishing team and this role will have 3 direct reports who each have responsibilities across Editorial, Production & Technology and Sales & Marketing.

We are ideally looking for someone with strong understanding of scholarly publishing and how changes in technology can impact positively on the landscape. You will need to be a strong people manager and leader. Experience of managing a library or understanding the workings of one would be an advantage for this role. You will be responsible for creating and implementing the publishing strategy. You must also be comfortable with budgets and talking through P&Ls as well as sales reports.

We are very open on your route to this role and would be keen to talk to people who have climbed the ladder in editorial, production, operations as well as sales and marketing.

Our client is looking to interview asap for this business critical role so please apply with your CV if you are interested.

For a full description of the role, please send your CV with a brief paragraph outlining your relevant skills.

Closing Date: Early applications may be prioritised.
