Publisher
Elliott & Thompson is a vibrant independent publisher of high-quality commercial non-fiction and carefully selected fiction, including million-copy-selling author Tim Marshall’s Prisoners of Geography and The Future of Geography. We are looking for a dynamic and astute Publisher, creative and commercial in equal measure, with the ambition to create bestsellers, develop projects that win awards and are profitable, and generate international success for our authors.
Working primarily across a range of exciting non-fiction, including history, biography, current affairs and nature-writing, this is a fantastic opportunity to lead one of the UK’s fastest growing independent publishers. With a keen eye for a great book, you will be the driving force of the business with the vision to shape the commercial direction of the company, overseeing editorial, art, marketing, publicity, sales and distribution, and rights.
We are proudly independent and can offer the freedom and flexibility to make an impact: if you have a can-do spirit and sense of adventure, the opportunities to really make your mark here are huge.
Main duties:
- You’ll take overall responsibility for our list, commissioning the future bestsellers that will drive our business forward.
- Develop strong agent and author relationships, spotting talent, generating ideas and developing projects (both agented and unagented).
- Build and develop a network of contacts across the industry, raising our profile and pursuing business opportunities.
- Manage and oversee the day-to-day activities of a talented and dedicated team across all publishing functions: editorial, art, marketing, publicity, sales and distribution, and rights.
You will:
- Demonstrate significant success in editorial, with some experience of marketing, publicity or sales also valuable.
- Have a solid understanding of the UK non-fiction market and insight into present and future trends.
- Have a strong commercial and sales mentality, understanding the need to grow the company’s revenue base.
- Be creative and entrepreneurial, with a can-do attitude.
- Demonstrate excellent relationship management skills, along with strong written and verbal communication skills, both internally and externally.
