Editorial Account Manager

A lovely role has opened up in the friendly team of an academic publisher for someone looking to combine their editorial skills with some account management responsibilities. This client is a publisher of Open Access books and journals, but they also have an amazing network of university presses and society publishers who share the company's platform and who receive dedicated editorial support.

Salary and Benefits:

  • £28,000 - £34,000 per annum, based on experience
  • Holiday allowance of 22 days to start, increasing each year up to 28 days (+ bank holidays)
  • Flexible working hours: 8am -10am start with 4pm - 6pm finish
  • Hybrid working - role can be home-based with 1-2 days a week in London office, however there is flexibility on frequency of office attendance based on candidate's location (within the UK)

About the role:

The Editorial Account Manager will look after a small portfolio of partner presses, ensuring they are well-looked after and supported with a range of editorial services. You will act as main point of contact for a range of partner presses of both academic journals and books, and have full oversight of the editorial workflow and hands-on responsibilities over editorial processing, including coordinating peer review, supporting journal development work, and handing over to production.

Key responsibilities:

  • Providing top-quality account management to partner publishers, acting as main point of contact with the clients, authors, editors and users of the platform
  • Setting up and maintaining journals platforms
  • Setting quality standards and specifications, liaising with authors and editors to monitor the publishing process
  • Assessing book proposals and work on new projects with prospective authors
  • Providing editorial support across both journals and book projects
  • Supporting the presses with editorial and policy development activities
  • Negotiating contract renewals for existing partners
  • Managing articles and book submissions

About the candidate:

This is a wonderfully varied role, where no day will be the same, and it will suit someone who welcomes new projects and who enjoys working on different types of publications. You will need to have top communication skills and be able to liaise with all the stakeholders involved in a professional manner. Some prior knowledge of academic journals editorial workflow and Open Access will be an advantage, but we welcome applications from candidates coming from other areas of publishing as well.
