Editorial and Content Officer (Health and Policy)

A charity publisher in London require a temporary Editorial and Content Officer with print and online experience, for a period of 4 weeks to support the team across a variety of tasks. This is covering sick leave and is starting ASAP.

Key duties:

  • Editing and proofreading a wide range of publications, blogs and other materials
  • Providing editorial feedback in an effective, constructive and diplomatic way
  • Quality assurance for new and migrated website content
  • Reviewing and tagging content, creating new pages and updating existing content in the CMS
  • Project managing individual publications projects, and the corporate blog
  • Commissioning and coordinating work from a range of freelancers and external suppliers, including writing detailed and accurate briefs, assuring quality of work and ensuring value for money. Services commissioned will include design, illustration, editing, proofreading and printing
  • Being an active and involved member of the Foundation’s integrated communications team, and acting as a source of internal expertise and advice on best practice in written communication and design
  • Working with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat and Photoshop) to create and update publications and other materials for both print and digital use. Designing clear, accurate and engaging charts and infographics for use in publications and on digital channels
  • Overseeing the day-to-day relationship with mailing house, booking deliveries, producing reports and processing orders from the website. Assisting with the coordination of publication stock and orders and maintaining an internal library of publications
  • Undertaking publications-related administration tasks such as allocating ISBNs, processing invoices and producing reports as necessary

Experience / skills required:

  • Experience of working print and online publications, aimed at a range of target audiences, and on content for digital channels, including blog and long form format
  • Experience of using InDesign to typeset long documents from Word, and using Illustrator and Photoshop to create and amend charts, images and infographics
  • Experience of working with and influencing a wide range of internal stakeholders, including senior managers, and providing diplomatic and actionable editorial feedback
  • Experience of in-house publication production, and commissioning and managing external suppliers to produce publications and other materials
  • Excellent editing, writing and proofreading skills, and exceptional attention to detail
  • Highly IT literate, with advanced skills in Word and InDesign, content management systems, including Drupal
  • Excellent project management and organisational skills
  • Ability to manage external contracts, ensuring cost, quality and deadlines are met. Good understanding of print production processes and fundamentals of design
  • A very strong communicator, capable of working in a team and with people at all levels of the organisation, as well as external stakeholders and suppliers
    Interest in, and understanding of, health care in the UK
  • Experience of working in communications or publishing within a health-related organisation would be desirable, as would understanding of how different health care audiences consume information.
