Editorial Assistant

Are you a science graduate looking to enter the world of scientific journal publishing? We have a super new Editorial Assistant role, working for a highly prestigious scientific publishing organisation based in London.

The Editorial Assistant is a pivotal role providing vital support to the publishing team, and the role is a varied, busy role where you will be involved in editorial board administration, compiling and reporting journal statistics, promoting content via social med, videos, and updating websites amongst a host of other interesting duties. This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, working 2 days a week in their London office.

Reporting to the Managing Editor some of the key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Acting as point of contact and support for the Editors-in-Chief and the Editorial Boards and their enquiries.
  • Ensure that information on the journals’ websites and submission systems are current and accurate.
  • Recommending journal articles for promotional videos, and work with freelancers and authors to produce scientifically accurate and engaging information.
  • Assist the Publications Team with administering the peer review of submitted manuscripts across the journals
  • Preparing agendas, collating and distributing papers, taking and distributing minutes as required
  • Support the Managing Editor with regard to the cover image and Editor’s choice/Pick of each issue

The Editorial Assistant will work across highly regarded journals on a global scale and between them, the journals have published the work of many Nobel Prize winners.

The successful person will be educated to degree level in a life science subject, with a passion for science and keen to learn every aspect of the role. Ideally, you will have some proven administration experience and excellent IT skills, including a solid working knowledge of MS Office, a knowledge of Photoshop and InDesign would be useful. You will be a highly organised individual, numerate, with the ability to work to tight deadlines and able to handle multiple projects.
