Editorial Assistant

We are looking for a well-organized, enthusiastic and self-motivated Editorial Assistant with strong French language skills to join our small and dynamic fashion publishing team. You will help create illustrated fashion books, including our bestselling Catwalk series and books made in partnership with high-profile fashion brands, from Chanel to Louis Vuitton.

No previous publishing experience is required as you will be fully trained. You may have a degree in the humanities, but more important to the role are a demonstrable interest in fashion, a willingness to learn, a good visual eye and attention to detail, and excellent communication skills (written and oral).

The Role

  • Providing editorial and visual research assistance
  • Liaising with key contacts in French and some translation work
  • Keeping track of and posting complimentary author, sponsor and gratis copies, as well as booking general deliveries and collections
  • Uploading meta data and organizing book materials
  • Financial administrative tasks including tracking and organizing author payments, processing invoices and drafting purchase orders
  • Utilizing spreadsheets and office systems to proactively anticipate missing or late invoices, author copies, payments and other book-related paperwork – and to chase these up accordingly
  • Helping to prepare and proofread editorial materials, such as for sales presentations and book fairs, and keying in proofreading changes
  • Liaising across teams, departments and T&H’s international offices, as well as external parties, to assist with meeting goals and deadlines.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of French
  • A demonstrable interest in fashion and visual culture
  • A strong visual sense and a keen eye for detail
  • Superb organization and time management
  • Ability to be proactive, multi-task and prioritize effectively
  • Experience of office and administrative work
  • Intermediate level of MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and command of English spelling and grammar
  • Some commercial acumen and a desire to learn more about publishing
  • Copywriting and proofreading skills a bonus, with an appetite for deepening these skills
