Editorial Manager, Development

We have a brilliant role of Editorial Manager (Development) with a top global Educational Publisher based in London. This is a full-time, permanent role that offers hybrid working (3:2) and can be based out of their offices in either London, Sheffield, Newcastle, Edinburgh or Banbury (Oxfordshire). As Editorial Manager (Development) your main remit will be to lead a team of experienced Development Editors supporting in the delivery of the educational publishing programme. The role is responsible for overseeing the development and delivery of manuscripts to the editorial teams through best practice processes and in close collaboration with colleagues in commissioning. The Editorial Manager will manage the recruitment, training, resourcing, and career development of the Development Editors, and is responsible for ensuring effective, streamlined processes are used throughout. Other responsibilities include:

  • To manage delivery of frontlist print and digital projects through developmental, advisory and revision stages to handover of final copy
  • To line manage a development editorial team
  • To manage workloads across the team, reallocating, prioritising and planning future workloads
  • To be responsible for quality control across the lists
  • To assess external development editing resources and budgets
  • Responsible for the development editorial function for the business

As a new role this is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a strong technical understanding of print and digital workflows and good people management skills to take on an exciting new challenge, working amongst a supportive and inclusive team. Excellent author care and relationship building skills will be important, as will top notch project management expertise. The Editorial Manager (Development) will ideally have relevant experience in educational publishing including development editing to a high standard, with an excellent eye for detail.
