Art Director

Faber is one of the world’s pre-eminent independent publishing houses, committed to the work of the most dynamic and significant creative voices in all forms and from all backgrounds. The current list spans Nobel laureates, bestselling fiction and non-fiction, award-winning poetry, film titles, classical music and modern drama. It includes writers such as Kazuo Ishiguro and Sally Rooney, Akwaeke Amezi and Leïla Slimani, Tsitsi Dangarembga and Sebastian Barry, Rachel Cusk, Lenny Henry and Cosey Fanni Tutti; the Faber backlist includes the works of T. S. Eliot, Seamus Heaney, Sylvia Plath, William Golding and P D James, among many others. For over 90 years, our publishing in every area has been synonymous with consistently iconic and ground-breaking design.

Faber is now looking to recruit a new Art Director. Reporting directly to the Publisher, this prestigious role will set the visual direction of Faber’s publishing. The Art Director will also create their own book covers and manage and inspire our studio of extraordinary designers.

The successful candidate will have considerable book-cover design experience and proven creative courage. You will be cognisant of the gamut of book publishing, from literary fiction to crime, serious non-fiction to celebrity memoir, poetry and music, and have the appetite to lead the field in every genre. You will be able to manage a broad workload and reprioritise with great flexibility. Critically, you will have the skills to inspire a team of brilliant designers, providing them with an environment in which they can create the best work of their careers, and create it to schedule. You will also have the skills for high-level collaboration with authors and senior staff. Line-management experience will be an advantage.

Please note: this role does not include work on Faber’s Children’s List.

To apply, please email ArtDirector@faberrecruitment.co.uk with a covering letter outlining the relevant qualities and experience you could bring to this dynamic role.
