Commercial Director

Faber is a leading independent literary publisher. We publish a diverse range of high-profile authors such as Kazuo Ishiguro, Anna Burns, Sally Rooney, Leïla Slimani, Tsitsi Dangarembga, Orhan Pamuk, Sebastian Barry, Laura Lippman, Lenny Henry, Luke Harding, Melissa Harrison and Amelia Gentleman, and we have a backlist containing the works of T. S. Eliot, Seamus Heaney, Sylvia Plath and William Golding, among many others. Faber is also a supplier of sales and distribution services to independent publishers and has a market-leading creative writing school.

We are looking for a Commercial Director to join our executive board team. We need someone with energy and drive, who can help us deliver our company plans and financial targets. The Commercial Director will work closely with other executive directors to develop strategy and ensure business decisions are made with the best possible commercial outcomes. We're looking for a fully qualified accountant who ideally has knowledge of the processes and financial structures of publishing. The successful candidate will have an excellent understanding of Faber's unique heritage and position in the cultural world, and be enthused by the idea of developing and shaping our exciting new future together. They will be a collaborative and thoughtful colleague, and an excellent line manager and leader.

The areas of distribution and inventory, the building, rights, and contracts and legal will all fall into the remit of the Commercial Director, through line management of the relevant head of each area. The role holder will also take on responsibility for financial business review and for aspects of budgeting and forecasting, as well as leadership of strategic business projects.

The job is also being created with long term planning in mind, and it is anticipated that the Commercial Director will take on overall responsibility for the Finance area when the current Finance Director retires.

This is a full-time position. The Commercial Director will be largely based in our London office but will be required to attend our Harlow office on a regular basis.
