Non-Fiction Commissioning Editor

We are looking to hire a talented Commissioning Editor for Faber non-fiction. This is a new and crucial role which will enable us to strengthen the list and we’re looking for someone has a passion for history, memoir, comedy & gift.

Working closely with the Associate Publisher, you'll commission, edit and publish approximately 10 books a year.

You will need to provide astute editorial guidance, brilliant author care and manage books through the publishing process. You’ll champion titles internally (from acquisitions to launch meetings) and externally, write distinctive copy and ensure metadata is up to date. You’ll also work closely with colleagues in sales, design, rights, marketing and publicity to develop the positioning and publishing strategy and ensure materials are provided on time.

Who we are looking for:

You love and read a lot of non-fiction.

You are entrepreneurial and able to generate book ideas from scratch and seek out a diverse range of writers and new voices. Your books will have a global as well as UK appeal.

You are imaginative, a smart negotiator, fiendishly organised, cool-headed and will arrive with a wide range of contacts. You have a track record for building good relationships with authors and agents.

You can present books with confidence and passion but you also have an eye for detail.

We have created hits out of books on Nietzsche and Klopp, cows and consciousness and we’d love to work with you if you have distinctive taste and an eclectic range of interests.

Editorial experience is not a prerequisite but to excel in this role you will have knowledge of the market.

This is a full-time position based in our London office, reporting to Associate Publisher Laura Hassan. 

Salary £30-40k per annum depending on experience
