The Role

We are looking for a number of Assistant Editors to join our Review Operations department and contribute to a faster high quality peer review for our top-contributing authors and editors. You will utilize your strong subject knowledge to support our Editorial Boards, particularly in the early stages of peer review. The goal is to retain good quality articles and to support the swift assignment of experts in the field to act as Reviewers.

We are specifically seeking Assistant Editors to join us who have subject matter expertise in one of the following areas (please specify in your application which discipline applies to you):

  • Pharmacology

  • Cancer Immunity & immunotherapy

  • Infectious diseases, antimicrobials & drug resistance

  • Plant science

  • Onco-genomics & anti-cancer drugs

Experience with and knowledge of cutting-edge research in these disciplines is an advantage, particularly how new methodologies (bioinformatics) is impacting your field of interest.

Key Responsibilities

  • Daily assess the editorial quality of newly submitted manuscripts, identifying the highest quality submissions for monitoring through peer review

  • Invite, with persuasive messaging, suitable expert editors, and reviewers for these high-quality articles, so that peer review can proceed in a timely manner

  • Liaise with authors, editors, reviewers, and Chief Editors to keep them informed, make recommendations, etc.

  • Support your Operational counterparts internally to ensure alignment and seizing opportunities to optimize the process

  • Identify and address bottlenecks to make the process faster

  • Manage 10-15 editing assignments per day

About You

You are a target driven individual with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.  You have a methodical approach to work, are confident working with volume and deadlines while maintaining a keen eye of detail and ensuring high quality.

  • Educated to a PhD level in one of the above scientific areas or equivalent experience

  • Previous experience in an editorial role within STM publishing would be an advantage

  • Excellent verbal and written English

  • Strong communication skills: decisive, persuasive, and tactful when working with multiple stakeholders
