The Role 

We are seeking enthusiastic applicants for the position of Copyediting Manager reporting into the Head of Production. This full-time position will provide the successful candidate with an excellent opportunity to work within the production team of a rapidly growing open access publisher, and to be involved in the operations of academic journals. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Managing a team of Copyeditors under the leadership of the Head of Production. 
  • Responsible for recruiting talented copyeditors, ensure high efficiency, optimal training and supporting their professional development. 
  • Define performance benchmarks and plans for the team. 
  • Responsible for monitoring progress to targets, analyzing data to report on productivity, efficiency, and forecasting. 
  • Drafting new procedures, templates and policies, as well as optimizing workflows and updating guidelines, in order to ensure quality and turnaround time standards are met during the copyediting process. 
  • Ensuring articles are processed in a timely and efficient manner without delays, while maintaining high quality standards. 
  • Oversee the team, and demonstrate leadership and vision through regular, open and objective communication. 
  • Implement and overseeing key projects linked to copyediting to improve team productivity and efficiency and ensuring successful inter-team collaborations. 
  • Responsible for regular, open communication channels to key stakeholders as well as negotiating with and providing feedback to service providers and freelancers to maintain high quality standards and cost effectiveness of the copyediting process. 
  • Departmental planning including objective setting with the Head of Production 

About You 

  • Established experience working in scientific publishing, ideally within copyediting or production. 
  • Ability to quickly and accurately manage large volumes of information and to take timely corrective actions to resolve bottlenecks. 
  • Sound and mature judgement; decisive and tactful when working with multiple stakeholders, internally and externally. 
  • A positive and productive approach when facing challenges. 
  • Comfortable working independently, highly organized with a good track record of meeting deadlines. 
  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English. 
  • Previous line management experience would be an advantage.
