The Role

We have a fantastic and rare opportunity for a strategic and target-driven publishing professional to join us as Director of Publishing Development heading our Launch and Editor Outreach department.

The Director of Publishing Development, Launch and Editor Outreach is responsible for the quality, growth and development of new launches within the Frontiers journal series. Working closely with senior managers across the Publishing division and other key internal stakeholders, you will contribute to our long-term vision of providing all research communities with a high-quality open access publishing option.  

Responsibilities

  • Inspiring and mentoring direct reports towards better and more efficient performance of the teams and driving a quality and customer-centric mindset.
  • Defining, implementing, and monitoring strategies and policies to ensure targets and quality standards 
  • Accountable for achieving Launches and Editor Outreach targets 
  • Working closely with the Product Management team to translate processes into software, and guide the development of features and products that will support the company’s goals 
  • Contributing to developing company-wide strategic plans, policies, and new initiatives 
  • Acting as an escalation point for issue resolution from the team 
  • Allocating staffing levels based on budget available 
  • Monitoring of and reporting on targets as well as timely flagging and intervention when issues arise that risk progress 
  • Representing the company in an official role to external stakeholders 

**Please note that this permanent role will predominantly fulfil a leave cover for the initial 9 months after which the team reporting into this role will be reviewed

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in academic publishing
  • Demonstrated experience in a senior management role with a strong strategic focus
  • Excellent leadership, with the ability to influence and align stakeholders across all levels through impactful communication
  • Strong business acumen and experience in customer-centric process design
  • Proven ability to understand complex data and make decisions effectively
  • Technical proficiency, with advance skills using current software (particularly MS Excel and Salesforce)
