Editorial Director: Maternity cover

Granta is one of the leading independent publishers in Britain, publishing award winning fiction, non-fiction, poetry and an acclaimed quarterly literary magazine.

We are looking for a highly organised, energetic and experienced editor to join our editorial team from mid July to cover the maternity leave of Granta Books’ Editorial Director, for 9 months to a year. The role will involve shepherding over a dozen authors and titles to publication, as well as acquiring titles on behalf of the Editorial Director from new and returning authors.

The ideal candidate will be a skilled editor with experience of acquiring and working with literary fiction and non-fiction authors. They will have a passion for literature and will bring editorial excellence, dynamism and flair to the publication of their books. They will be experienced in writing copy, presenting their books at conference and assessing cover designs, and will have knowledge of publishing processes and of Biblio. They will be confident working with sales, marketing and publicity teams to help develop energetic and impactful campaigns. They will have established contacts in the agenting world and will be familiar with Granta’s list.

Applications from commissioning editors with several years’ experience to editorial director level are welcome.  The chosen candidate will report directly to the Publishing Director.
