Commissioning Editor / Senior Commissioning Editor

Who we are and what we do

With over 150 years of ground-breaking publishing from book lovers, original thinkers and market leaders, our unwavering mission has been to publish the most compelling voices in every genre. We continue to find new ground, new audiences and new voices with every title we publish. We are passionate readers and believe in the power of words to change lives.

Hodder & Stoughton is a division of Hachette, one of the largest publishing groups in the UK, with 12 publishing divisions and over 60 imprints. Everyone here is proud to be in the business of opening doors and minds.

What you'll be doing

We have an exciting opportunity for an energetic Commissioning Editor or Senior Commissioning Editor to join the Hodder Fiction team and help develop our Digital and IP strategy.

Reporting to the Editorial Director, the successful candidate will collaborate on digital growth and be responsible for a select number of commercial acquisitions.

You will have excellent author and agent relationships and be comfortable being an ambassador for Hodder Fiction within the industry. You will be able to help attract talent to the list while building your own list of writers (you will also inherit some existing Hodder authors for you to grow).

You will also be actively engaged in finding the right backlist opportunities on the Hodder list that are ready to have their moment to be taken to a whole new readership with commercially savvy repackages and reactive, trend-led strategies.

You will contribute extensively to meetings and brainstorms (including helping to come up with IP ideas) and you will liaise with authors, agents, freelancers and internal teams to ensure high levels of care and energy across our publishing.

You will be expected to be proactive and have a strong understanding of the digital market in the UK and internationally, with a focus on driving digital growth in the US market, plus a willingness to learn and be part of a dynamic and forward-thinking team.
