What you’ll be doing

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly creative and imaginative designer to join the Hachette Children’s preschool & picture book team in a full time position. Reporting to the Group Art Director, you will design commercial and co-edition friendly picture book, board book and novelty books. As part of a lively and dedicated design team, you will be responsible for making illustrative and editorial content work together synergistically and will help support the day-to-day work of the design department. You will work closely with illustrators, manage book layouts from conception to production, create market-leading covers and be responsible for managing files.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for an innovative designer with creative flair and a passion for designing full-colour books for children. You will have a strong eye for new trends and an awareness of the UK and international children’s book markets. You will be comfortable working in a dynamic and creative environment and will be a keen team player. Excellent communication skills are key to this role, alongside an ability to manage multiple tasks and tight deadlines. You will have strong Adobe, InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop skills, a minimum of one to two year’s design experience and experience of sourcing illustrators.
