An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Desk Editor to join the Enid Blyton Entertainment and Fiction team at Hachette Children’s Group.

HCG is home to the enduring and exciting publishing of Enid Blyton’s estate, which extends to new titles alongside the classics, as well as a fantastic range of bestselling and award-winning fiction authors and illustrators, such as Leigh Bardugo, Patrice Lawrence, Onjali Q. Raùf, Jessica Townsend, Julian Gough, Jim Field and Dermot O’Leary.

What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the Editorial Director, EBE and Fiction Brands, and working alongside the Senior Desk Editor, Fiction, the Desk Editor, EBE and Fiction will be responsible for managing the Enid Blyton production schedules and seeing all Enid Blyton titles through copy-editing, proofreading and typesetting processes, from final manuscript to finished product. The role will also include some desk editing work from the Fiction list where necessary, with a broad remit across titles for ages five to young adult, including both illustrated and non-illustrated projects.

You will be responsible for clear communication and liaison with authors, editors and the wider HCG teams, plus management of freelance resources, to deliver books to schedule and to budget.

Who we’re looking for

We are seeking a meticulous, highly motivated individual, ideally with experience of working within children’s publishing.

We value accuracy, pace and a proactive approach, and are looking for somebody who is eager to grow their skillset while delivering exceptional editorial service to one of our most important brands.

Applicants should have excellent editorial skills and an interest in the children’s fiction market. Experience of the desk editing process, proof reading and copy-editing is required.
