Marketing Director, HarperFiction (FTC)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Marketing Director to join HarperFiction and lead our award-winning marketing team on a fixed-term contract to cover a period of parental leave.

There has never been a more exciting time to join HarperFiction. In this role you’ll lead the high-performing marketing team, help shape the future of the HarperFiction list and deliver industry-leading campaigns.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading the HarperFiction marketing team

  • Line management of 2-3 senior marketers

  • Setting and day-to-day management of the marketing budget and team allocation

  • Key stakeholder in cover art, acquisitions and P&Ls

  • Working closely with the MD/Publisher, UK/International Sales Directors and Publicity Director on publishing strategy and future planning for the division

  • Overseeing and delivering strategic, creative and innovative campaigns for key releases and authors across the division

  • Empowering the marketing team to share learning and put innovation and creativity at the heart of their campaigns

  • Reacting to market pull, continually measuring and evaluating success

  • Promoting a culture of collaboration across the division, working closely with Publicity, Sales and Editorial to ensure that all stakeholder needs are met

Experience and Skills Required

  • Significant experience of setting and delivering marketing strategy within a trade publisher

  • Experienced people leader and manager

  • Highly organised and able to manage multiple competing deadlines, prioritising and delegating effectively  

  • Budget management

  • Understanding of the commercial fiction market and book buyer

  • Able to create and deliver successful author pitches

  • Experience of working collaboratively with multiple senior stakeholders

  • Creative flair  

  • Calm under pressure

  • A team player with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong working relationships with multiple stakeholders across the business and externally

  • Data-driven and results-focused
