At Haus we publish history, biography, memoir, and travelogues. We are looking for an Editor to support the Publisher in a full-time position based in our London office, with the option to combine office-based and remote working.

Principal responsibilities will include:

Editing – structural editing and copy-editing; proofreading; fact-checking; collating changes; preparing manuscripts for typesetting and titles for print; drafting copy for book jackets

Managing – planning and monitoring schedules; working with freelance editors, proofreaders and indexers; acting as the main point of contact for production; ensuring efficient editorial workflow

Submissions – managing unsolicited submissions, as well as submissions from foreign publishers and agents; potential to undertake commissioning responsibilities to further develop our list

Essential skills and experience:

  • Experience of copy-editing and proofreading to a high standard using Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat Pro
  • Ability to manage project schedules and work to multiple concurrent deadlines
  • Ability to cultivate productive and professional relationships with authors and freelancers

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Ability to manage book projects from first manuscript through to print deadline
  • Familiarity with book publishing processes
  • Experience of working with image and text reproduction licences
  • Experience of compiling and proofreading imprint pages, image credits, and endnotes

We particularly welcome applicants who identify as being part of groups that are currently marginalised or underrepresented in publishing. Applications (comprising a CV and covering letter) should be sent to Harry Hall at harry@hauspublishing.com
