Head of Business Development - Academic Publishing

Would you like to drive the sales business for a new start up division of a major academic publisher, be at the forefront of digital research and have your finger on the pulse of global research?

Due to expansion and acquisition, our client, a leading publisher of specialist, upper-level academic books and journals is looking for a new Head of Business Development. This super new role will drive the new sales business from academic institution users, along with relationship building and sales growth through integrated services.

The Head of Business Development role would suit an ambitious, commercially-minded and experienced individual who is looking to make their mark in a new and innovative area of publishing.

The role of Head of Business Development will involve but is not limited to:

  • Monitor competitor platforms and services and provide market feedback to the company leadership.
  • Gain a deep understanding of the needs of academic institutions and academic researchers, and generate product development ideas that are commercially viable.
  • Create, negotiate and close commercial agreements to agreed annual financial targets
  • Build strong relationships with existing clients to increase their current spend
  • Develop and coordinate the implementation of business plans for new sectors, based on a rigorous analysis
  • Attending and speaking at events representing the  brand and organisation

The successful person will have:

  • Sufficient and demonstrable experience working in a corporate/business focused environment
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Knowledge of the academic research sector desirable
  • A track record of pitching for new business
  • Proven track record of increasing revenue through generation of leads
  • Demonstrated influencing, communication and negotiation skills across teams and with all levels of management
  • Excellent communication skills: oral, written and the ability to present and build strong external relationships

We are looking for a motivated, commercially driven individual for this exciting new role.

This position can be based in their London or Oxfordshire office and caries an attractive salary and an excellent benefits package.
