Head of Business Systems

A pivotal new role of Head of Business Systems has arisen in the Education division of a global publishing company. Reporting to the COO, this position of Head of Business Systems will play a strategic role in overseeing the division's key operational business systems, including their integrity, maintenance and development. The role acts as a key liaison within the business across all workflows and transactional processing, and with the rest of the company's divisions, setting standards and driving best practice to ensure the business is doing as it should as effectively as it can. The Head of Business Systems will input into long term planning on emerging technologies and look to drive customer-focused change. Other responsibilities include: to develop a culture of continuous improvement in systems & processes through greater automation, lean practices and simplification; own relationships with key external systems providers through the whole lifecycle of tender, onboarding, governance, development roadmap and end-of-contract transition; and optimise the effectiveness of systems architecture, including working with IT on server availability, management and maintenance; and you will support compliance across whole supply chain (e.g. data providers, printer systems and processes).

The successful Head of Business Systems will ideally possess great energy, curiosity and drive as well as a strong understanding of publishing systems and workflows, including ecommerce and digital development, and have a good grasp of IT architecture, data management and cyber security. You will be an excellent communicator, able to work cross-functionally, involving a wide range of stakeholders at all levels. Strong stakeholder management skills, and experience of complex workflows and products in a multi-site environment will be key. As a collaborative, hands-on, team player, you will be an excellent problem-solver with an interest in Publishing and the Education sector.
