Head of Data & Software Publishing

A highly successful global publisher of open research has an exciting new opportunity for an experienced data and software professional to join the team as Head of Data & Software Publishing. Reporting to the Publishing Director, this role will be responsible for identifying, driving and delivering activities and product development in relation to data (including materials and other related elements) and software publishing, as well as take a leadership role on relevant editorial policies to ensure the company remains at the cutting edge of publishing with regards data and software. This role will also require you to contribute and influence on broader data and software policies. This role can be worked remotely.

This is a pivotal role within the team and key responsibilities will include:

  • Understanding the opportunities for the company in supporting researchers in publishing their data, software and other related materials beyond the research article, across all research disciplines through market and customer analysis and feedback from colleagues and customers.
  • Assess the commercial aspects (benefits and costs) of potential new features, collaborations, products and services, including any associated risks, and provide structures analysis to assist with decision making.
  • Design and deliver a roadmap to maximise opportunities and to keep the organisation at the cutting edge of scholarly data and software publishing
  • Collaborate with other departments to understand the implications of any new development, service, change or policy adjustment, and project manage the successful delivery of those agreed across these teams and across the wider company.

The ideal person will have a strong knowledge, experience and understanding of the fast-changing open research landscape, with respect to data and software policy; a strong grasp of new and emerging tools, solutions and approaches in this space and an understanding of commercial drivers and product development. You will also have a solid understanding of the evolving requirements for open research, data and software policies across scholarly publishing, along with product development, experience and project management knowledge and experience in this area.  A detailed understanding and experience of researcher workflows and how FAIR data and software and open research more broadly is being introduced to them. A knowledge of the Open Access scholarly publishing industry generally and the broader market for research content is essential.

This role carries a generous salary, benefits and bonus and can be worked on a remote basis or office based in London post Covid.
