Director of the Knowledge Centre

Redwood Publishing Recruitment is delighted to be the recruitment partner of a successful UK based charity, Be the Business, in their search for a Director of the Knowledge Centre. Be the Business is an independent, not-for-profit organisation whose aim is to help business owners and leaders improve the performance of their business. The company publishes reports, based on detailed surveys, aimed at small and medium sized businesses to inform the productivity level of these businesses.

The Director of the Knowledge Centre, which is a highly senior role, is a brand-new role within the company and offers an opportunity for personal growth for an entrepreneurial candidate who has the passion to build their own operating unit within the business. Initially, you will lead a team of 4 within this department, with a focus on communications, publishing and events. Events and publishing are highly important as this is a content driven business and your aim will be to build a strong narrative to support this business.

The company office is in London and the position will require 1 day each week in the office and attendance at quarterly company meetings.

In this role, you will leverage the Be the Business intellectual property through publications, events, sponsorship, insight groups, and other appropriate means, to create a profitable income stream. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing the strategy for research ensuring it is connected to the charitable mission of the organization and is commercially relevant to potential funders
  • Leading the development of a pipeline of income-generating opportunities and its conversion into a range of projects to be delivered
  • Leading the publishing efforts of the organisation, ensuring publications are of high quality, insightful, practical, relevant, and timely for different stakeholders
  • Leading the communications strategy for the business, focusing on the corporate communications, engaging with potential funders and government alike

A strategic thinker, keen to roll up your sleeves to get things done, you will be an experienced communications professional who can convey complex ideas simply and clearly. Able to operate in a start-up environment and competitive market, you will be an inspiring leader who can establish this business function quickly and effectively, building the team to produce great results at speed. You will have an entrepreneurial mind set with a flair for building great narrative to boost the organisation’s mission. You may come from an agency or publishing background and now looking to bring your experience and knowledge to a new venture.
