Head of Publishing

Head of Publishing | Scholarly. A leading, global publisher of academic content is looking to appoint an experienced candidate to the role of Head of Publishing to take responsibility for overseeing strategic content development across their portfolio, comprising a significant number of journals, books, teaching case studies and a growing open research programme. Leading the publishing division, you will balance delivery of the existing programme while working with scholarly communities with the aim of accelerating co-production and making real impact across the research ecosystem.

Reporting directly at Board level, the successful candidate will oversee strategy, content development including existing products and experimentation with new forms of existing digital content.

Responsibilities will include:

·Setting and communicating the vision and strategic development of content strategy
·Coaching, inspiring and managing the publishing team
·Development and achievement of portfolio targets for new, innovative forms of digital content acquisition 'beyond the article'
·Through the open research publishing team, accelerate development and market position
·Networking and relationship building across research, research management, funder and library communities
·Engagement with the research community
·Close collaboration with colleagues to ensure success of products and services
·Attendance and speaking opportunities at targeted research sector and industry events
·Leading company-wide projects, working groups and ad hoc initiatives

You will have a high personal drive, proven leadership and influencing skills, work effectively within a cross-functional environment, have demonstrable planning and organisational experience and will have the financial acumen to produce clear, commercial results.
You will already have solid experience at a senior level within scholarly communications or the academic publishing sector and will have a deep awareness and understanding of the research and publishing landscape, including current developments within open science.
