Journal and Data Manager

Are you a whizz with data insights and analysis? We're working with a growing STM publisher looking to hire a Business Analyst and Data Manager to drive the performance of their portfolio of highly successful scientific journals.

We're looking for someone with excellent analytic skills as well as strong relationship building and communication skills, as this role will be key to informing strategies across the business, primarily with Heads of Department in sales, marketing, editorial and publishing. You will have to demonstrate excellent influencing and listening skills to help stakeholders efficiently manage the business during a period of changing needs as data-driven decision making and opportunity monitoring gathers pace.

In this role, you will be developing business intelligence and actionable insight which will inform the creation of relevant KPIs and business decisions. This will require skills in handling complex data from a variety of sources, and creating and communicating intelligence drawn from it. This will often be in visualised form, to enable you to share data drawn from submissions, publishing output, sales, citations, and usage with stakeholders.

We are very open to backgrounds and you don't necessarily need to be from a journal background, as long as you have an interest and understanding of the current journals publishing landscape, and can demonstrate strong skills across the following:

  • Business intelligence
  • Data analysis, modelling and visualisation from raw data
  • APIs and integrating them seamlessly with in-house systems
  • Commercial focus
  • Summarising and presenting findings clearly to internal and external stakeholders
  • Advanced Excel skills including formula construction, add-ins and VBA
  • Experience of combining data from multiple sources.

This is a business critical role at an exciting time of change for our client. We are excited to talk to people in and out of journals publishing who can demonstrate these skills and strengths needed to help our client pivot into a data-driven successful publisher.

For a full description of the role, please send your CV with a brief paragraph outlining your relevant skills.

Closing Date: Early applications may be prioritised.
