Journal Sales & Development Lead

We have a highly interesting and varied, newly created role, working for a prestigious London based Society publisher. This is a new and exciting phase for our client and this new role is ideal for someone who is looking to develop and grow within a journals sales and development role. The role can be worked on a hybrid basis, with 1-2 days a week in the office.

The Journals Sales & Development Lead will work with a wide range of colleagues, members and external partners to protect and grow journals sales revenue while making sure that the Society is at the forefront of open science initiatives. You will be responsible for managing journal sales activities and leading on agreements, ensuring that customers and stakeholders understand the Society’s position on open science and the move towards open access publishing.

Further responsibilities will involve working with sales agents, publishing representatives, consortium managers, librarian customers and open research managers in universities and research institutes, but you will also work across the Society to manage the business as models change. You will have the opportunity to identify new market opportunities to expand the international reach of the Society’s new model.

The successful person will ideally have the following skills and experience:

  • A proven track record of successful sales in the scholarly subscription market, ideally a membership or similar organisation.
  • The ability to build relationships with stakeholders and decision makers in an academic setting
  • Ability to manage budgets and forecasts
  • An understanding of the current issues affecting scholarly publishing would be a bonus
  • An awareness of the needs of authors and end-users, and the appropriate strategies to build and maintain loyalty with customers.
  • Experience in Open Access publishing models and pricing
