Marketing and Online Assistant

The London Magazine is seeking to appoint an articulate, confident and enthusiastic person to take on the role of Marketing and Online Assistant. The London Magazine (est. 1732) is the oldest literary and arts periodical in Britain. We publish the best in contemporary short fiction, poetry, essays and reviews. As a thriving cultural artefact, the magazine offers employees an immersion in London’s thriving life of letters and the arts.

You will have a passion for literature, together with an aptitude for marketing and producing content, as well as an ambition to forge a career in the world of publishing. As part of a friendly and supportive team you will bring your enthusiasm to bear on responsibilities that include:

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing social media platforms and creating content across all channels, including Instagram and Twitter (X).
  • Creatively promoting our extensive archive online and on social media.
  • Overseeing and producing content for the website.
  • Ensuring the quality and consistency of all digital content.
  • Coordinating writing competitions.
  • Initiating and managing marketing campaigns.
  • Designing and organising print and online advertising.
  • Managing events, occasionally outside working hours.
  • Website maintenance, including uploading articles and sourcing imagery.
  • Liaising with writers and publishers to organise interviews, extracts and reviews.
  • Assisting with our monthly podcast, including booking studio time, travel
    arrangements and audio editing (training will be provided).
  • Designing promotional materials and digital assets.
  • Assisting with various administrative tasks as needed.
  • Identifying and exploring new marketing opportunities to grow the magazine's audience.

Candidate

You must have an excellent knowledge of both literary history and contemporary publishing. Personally, you will be proactive and self-motivated with a desire to take ownership of projects. You will show an understanding of how to pitch engaging social media content and design creative advertising campaigns. You will possess fine organisational skills and attention to detail, a diligent attitude and the ability to manage a balanced workload. You will possess excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills. You will have experience in using design tools and software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite), Wordpress or similar CMS platforms and email marketing tools like Mailchimp.
