Editor, Pan

Are you passionate about quality commercial non-fiction? Do you want to work on some of the most influential and biggest bestsellers in the market, with authors such as Angela Merkel, Martin O’Neill, Kim Scott and Edward Snowden? We are looking for a creative and conscientious Editor to join Macmillan Non-fiction, working across both our narrative non-fiction list and our business books list.

This is a busy and wide-ranging position with lots of potential for growth. Your role will be to work closely with and support the Publishing Director on some of our biggest titles, from thought-leaders and experts. You will also have the opportunity to commission your own successful list of non-fiction across genres including business, history, sport, popular science, big ideas, and current affairs – depending upon interest and experience.

The ideal candidate will be smart, ambitious, and well versed in serious non-fiction. You will have a strong commercial eye, and an awareness of the business book market. Think you can find the next Atomic Habits or Prisoners of Geography? Or sign up the next big sports autobiography? Then we want you!

The successful candidate will have:

  • A conscientious and organised approach to work: being able to brief covers and write copy to key deadlines is a must.
  • A creative mindset in how to pursue hot acquisitions and bring new authors to the list.
  • Impeccable author and agent care across every stage of the publishing process.
  • A can-do attitude in supporting the publishing director in terms of ambitious growth for the list.
