Hiring Manager: Head of Publicity, Pan

We have an exciting opportunity for a creative, highly experienced and enthusiastic publicist with a passion for books to join the Pan Communications team as maternity cover, working on titles from Macmillan, Mantle and Pan. You will have at least four years’ experience in publishing PR and a proven track record of running successful publicity campaigns to engage a wide range of audiences across a variety of our commercial fiction titles. There will also be opportunities to work on commercial non-fiction campaigns. The role will report to the Head of Publicity, Pan and sits within the Pan Communications team.

Key tasks include - 

  • To plan and implement effective, audience-appropriate PR campaigns for commercial fiction and non-fiction titles, coordinating and liaising with all relevant internal departments, and providing a high level of author and agent care
  • To pitch and organize events and tours, both physical and virtual, including engagement with promotional opportunities outside the publishing industry
  • To maintain and further build effective personal relationships with a broad range of media, digital event and industry contacts
  • To ensure that, whenever relevant, campaigns are coordinated to best effect with US and other international counterparts

The successful candidate will have-

  • Proven experience in working with high profile authors and brand building across multiple platforms
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • The ability to juggle and prioritise multiple tasks utilising a high level of organisational skills
  • The ability to write fluently and passionately about books and related interest areas
  • Proven experience in event management across a multitude of platforms
  • A good understanding of social media
  • Strong knowledge of the book market, especially in the commercial fiction and reading group sector
  • A thorough understanding of print, broadcast and digital media and good relationships with media and event contacts
  • A love of commercial fiction and an understanding of the trends and key authors in this area of mainstream publishing

Starting salary: From £35,000
