Managing Editor

Redwood is delighted to be working exclusively with the Radio Society of Great Britain (RSGB) to recruit an experienced Managing Editor for their publishing team. The RSGB is a membership organisation and represents Britain’s radio amateurs in both the UK and internationally. This role can be worked on a remote basis if preferred, or on a hybrid basis from their offices in Bedford.

Reporting to the General Manager, the Managing Editor will manage the Society’s journal and one of the most respected amateur radio publications in the world. You will be responsible for all operational aspects of the publications including budgets, design and ensuring timely publication and distribution to all members in both print and digital formats.

The role includes overseeing the digital publications of two of their flagship publications as well as being part of the team that puts together GB2RS news each week, taking the entire co-ordinated portfolio forward and exploiting new media opportunities.

Other responsibilities will include planning the content of the magazines, commissioning technical articles, sub-editing copy sent in by contributors and regular columnists, liaising with the advertising agent and ensuring the magazines are consistently produced to a high standard.

This is a crucial role within the team and the successful person will have demonstrable experience of producing professional and technical publications in both print and digital formats.  You will have a strong command of the English language and will be able to work with a range of publishing tools as well as the ability to work as part of the wider team, and ideally, have a knowledge of amateur radio matters. As a senior member of the team, you will be required to make operational and budget decisions, with the ability to prioritise your workload, change scope and provide excellent service to the members. This role might suit someone who has experience of working for a technical and/or membership journal or magazine with an interest in electronics, computing, engineering or other technical experience. An interest in radio, electronics and other technical subjects would be an advantage.

This role carries a generous salary, benefits package with the option to work from home, with monthly visits to the office at key times.
