Managing Editor

New challenge for the New Year? We have an exciting opportunity for a Managing Editor at an independent publisher based in Central London!

You will be responsible for managing an enthusiastic team of in-house and freelance editors and should be prepared to contribute your own ideas and be involved in the development of the list. Your main duties will include: managing a wide range of titles; supporting editorial staff; budgeting and scheduling; overseeing production of sales material and preparation for book fairs; training junior members of staff; and liaising both internally and externally.

You must have considerable relevant experience in trade publishing and excellent hands-on, editorial skills. The successful candidate will have experience in project managing book projects through the editorial process and will have commissioned writers, illustrators, and liaised with designers. You will ideally have experience of contributing to the strategic direction of titles and will be expected to work on multiple titles at once, all of which might have tight deadlines.

Strong communication skills are key as you will be in frequent contact with authors, freelance editors, designers and experts. The successful candidate will be highly organised and have a strong eye for detail. You should have good IT skills and a familiarity with InDesign would be useful. This is a great opportunity for someone with excellent time and resource management skills looking for a new challenge.

For a full description of the role, please send your CV with a brief paragraph outlining your relevant skills.

Closing Date: Early applications may be prioritised.
