Managing Editor / Assistant Managing Editor
Our client, a leading academic publisher in central London, has an exciting new role for either a Managing Editor or Assistant Managing Editor to join their Open Access team. The successful candidates will be involved with content and journal development. This position would suit an STM publishing professional with a background in Biomedical Sciences.
Key duties:
- Develop open access journals by commissioning review articles and editorials
- Be a key decision maker and manage the peer review process
- Engage and provide recommendations in the manuscript referral process
- Launch new titles and manage rebranding of journals
- Attend national and international conferences to maintain strong discipline awareness
- Work with Marketing team to develop Special Collections and aid other marketing activities
- Oversee and report on journal performance against targets
- Attend Commissioning team and Open Access meetings as required
- Monitoring of and reporting on financial performance of journals to Executive Managing Editor and Executive Director
Experience / skills required:
- Solid editorial experience in STM journals publishing
- Proven article commissioning experience
- Educated in degree qualification in a biomedical subject is essential, holder of a relevant postgraduate qualification will be advantageous
- Experience of peer review and manuscript decision making
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate at all levels
- Proven experience with the ScholarOne manuscript submission system
- Excellent prioritisation skills and ability to work under pressure
- Willing to travel and attend international conferences
