Film Scout

We are hiring a film scout, in a role with exciting possibilities for career growth.

Maria B. Campbell Associates is an international scouting firm with globally recognized clients in film and television, alongside its excellent roster of international publishing clients.

We are looking for a scout to work alongside the company director in managing the production companies and film/TV studios we work for both in the UK and internationally.

You will source, select and track books that are suitable for adaptation, liaising with editors and primary agents as well as film agents, and will be able to assess them for clients and present them persuasively. You will also write coverage of books that is suitable for both international publishing and adaptation. You will track authors and specific books and help to advise clients on deals and offers. You will oversee record-keeping and rights research. You will have day-to-day responsibility for client care.

We are looking for a candidate with at least 3-5 years of experience in publishing and/or television, and we will give preference to those with scouting experience, looking to make a step up. You should have a solid sense of what makes a book right for adaptation and should be able to talk about fiction and non-fiction in a way that is appropriate. You should have a good list of contacts in publishing (television contacts a bonus), and you should be dynamic in working to expand that. A basic understanding of the development process would be helpful, and you should be able to demonstrate a keenness for TV, as well as for commercial fiction.  Your job will involve keeping good records, and tracking key titles and authors, so attention to detail is a must. We also value clear and lively written and verbal communication!

We work closely as a team, with an integrated approach to our work with publishing and film/TV clients, so you will have involvement with all aspects of our business.

Responsibilities and duties:

Liaising with clients and managing those relationships on a day-to-day basis.

Sourcing and assessing books suitable for our clients.

Maintaining and growing a network of publishing contacts.

Liaising with film agents and tracking their submissions.

Responding to client queries and researching the rights status of books.

Creative ‘deep dives’ into genres or topic areas.

Producing call agendas, tailored weekly memos and specialist reports.

Responsibility for record-keeping regarding film submissions.

Following industry news and social media to report on trends, moves and changes in the UK and international television business.

Position:

Full time, with a hybrid working model.

Salary:

Dependent on experience.

Please email with your CV and a covering letter to ecochrane@mbcbook.com.

Applications will close 23rd June 2023, but we reserve the right to close the recruitment process early if we have found the right candidate.
