Associate Agent

Mushens Entertainment is looking for an Associate Agent to work across Juliet Mushens’s client list alongside her assistant, and to develop their own list of clients.

To apply you must have: at least three years’ experience working as an agency, scouting or publishing assistant, or already be working as an associate or junior agent.

The role will involve: reading and assessing submissions, communicating with authors, offering editorial notes on manuscripts, processing deal memos and negotiating contracts, invoicing and liaising with our book-keeper and accountant on payments, attending meetings with clients and publishers, checking and approving foreign deals and contracts, coming up with ideas and proactively developing your own list of clients. Whilst some of your role will be admin and support based it will presume a good knowledge of and confidence in the industry, with an understanding of commercial trends and the publishing process and the ability to deal with a fast-paced office. It is not an entry level position.

The ideal candidate will be: fiercely organised, enthusiastic and keen to learn, full of initiative, confident in meetings and dealing with people on the phone, and with a broad reading taste - and excellent discretion! This is primarily an office-based role with a degree of flexibility available.

Salary:

Starting salary is £26-28,000 commensurate with experience. Benefits and bonus package are generous and wide-ranging and there is room to progress within the company.

To apply:

Please apply with your CV and a covering letter that includes your notice period (if relevant) as well as 5 books you have read recently, and a paragraph about what you think makes a good agent: jobs@mushens-entertainment.com. The closing date for applications will be Monday 24th January. We reserve the right to close the recruitment process early if we have found the right candidate.
