Editor/Senior Editor, Picture Books

Flying Eye Books is an award-winning Children’s Book Publisher that is committed to producing beautiful books with high production values across fiction and non-fiction genres for children of ages 3-14 years old. We are currently expanding our Editorial team and on the lookout for a passionate and talented Editor/Senior Editor to help develop and grow our innovative picture book list.

You must have at least 2-3 years of experience working in a Children’s Book editorial department and a good understanding of the children’s book marketplace. You might be an assistant editor looking for your next step up or a more experienced editor: what matters is that you are passionate and have lots of new ideas to contribute to our award-winning picture book list.

Reporting to and working closely with the Publisher, you will project-manage your own titles, and support the Publisher on complex editorial projects. You will be an excellent communicator, both verbally and in writing, have meticulous attention to detail, a creative spark that is bursting with new ideas, and the ability to see potential in a text and transform it into a brilliant picture book where words and illustration pair beautifully together.

You will also be responsible for developing the list through: building, fostering and maintaining close working relationships with existing and new authors & illustrators; generating new and interesting book publishing ideas; encouraging writers and illustrators to create high-profile, best-selling stories; working closely and effectively with designers and editor colleagues; researching and commissioning appropriate authors.

Whilst our UK office is based in East London, we remain committed to flexible working practices although some monthly office attendance will be required.

Salary is dependent on experience.

We want to develop and attract talent as broad as the readers we reach with our books and welcome applications from all backgrounds. We employ people based on their abilities, regardless of age, faith, disability, race, gender, sexuality or socio-economic background.

To apply for this job, we require an up to date CV and a cover letter explaining why we should consider you for the job – applications by email only to harry@nobrow.net by Friday 21st May 2021.
