Production Assistant

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, organised, and pro-active individual to join our Nosy Crow Production team as a Production Assistant. Nosy Crow is a multi-award winning, independent children’s publishing company based in London. We make child focused, parent-friendly children’s books for ages 0-12. This role is ideal for someone eager to launch their production career in a fast-growing company, which produces a broad range of beautiful books.

As part of the Nosy Crow Production team, you will be involved in every aspect of the publishing process. Working closely with both internal colleagues and external suppliers, you will be a key member of a busy team, responsible for reprints and co-editions across a wide range of products (including mono, colour and novelty items) across the lists. You will also be required to support the team, providing costs, schedules and liaising with suppliers as required. 

You will love books, have a great eye for detail, be creative, numerate and exceptionally organised. You must be enthusiastic, positive, a great communicator and a strong team player. The ability to stay calm and focused under pressure is a must.

The ideal candidate will have experience of working in an office preferably with some knowledge of publishing and production.

The role is a full-time position and is a hybrid role, working a minimum of three days per week in our office near London Bridge.

The successful candidate will have the right to live and work in the UK.

Please note that this role is specifically targeted at book production and no other media.

Purpose of the Job:

The role of the Production Assistant is to support the Production team, and be responsible for the production and delivery of range of titles across the Nosy Crow backlist. The Production Assistant will work closely with colleagues from all areas of Nosy Crow and will be responsible for working with other members of staff to provide general office services.

Key responsibilities and tasks:           

  • Responsible for the production (pre-press, sales materials, manufacturing) of various Nosy Crow backlist titles.
  • Liaise with in-house departments across the business including editorial and design teams to ensure that reprint file workflows are handled with accuracy, detail, and speed.
  • Responsible for the eBook conversion of all mono titles, ensuring that files are converted accurately, and that full metadata is supplied
  • Collaborate across internal departments and external suppliers to ensure Sales materials requirements are met and accurately communicated.
  • Provide shipping and general admin support to the Production and Operations teams
  • General office assistance including maintaining our file copy library, recycling, arranging couriers and post, and other housekeeping

Key skills, characteristics, and capabilities:

  • Experience of working in an office – highly desirable
  • Experience in book production – not essential, though some experience would be beneficial
  • Experience in another production, operations, and/or shipping role – desirable
  • Experience in another publishing role – not essential, though would be useful
  • Biblio experience – not essential, though prior knowledge desirable
  • Microsoft Office skills

The starting salary for this role is £27,000.
