Are you a strategic, enthusiastic, experienced rights professional looking for a new challenge with a leading UK Publisher?

A fantastic new role has been created for a Rights Manager at Pan Macmillan UK. We are one of the largest general book publishers in the UK, with a broad range of imprints including Macmillan, Pan, Picador, Mantle, Tor, Bluebird, One Boat, Collector’s Library and Macmillan Children's Books.

We are looking for a talented, tenacious and creative person, with a keen commercial eye, who is ready to take the next step in their career by joining a leading rights team and developing their skills as a Rights Manager. We are looking for someone who will thrive in and contribute to a busy team and be able to work effectively independently.

You will be passionate about books and the international publishing landscape, keen to explore a new challenge and excited by the opportunity to work across the range of lists at Macmillan, working dynamically on both frontlist and backlist titles.

You will also take an active role in identifying suitable new titles for world rights acquisitions and working with other teams across the business to develop strategy, pitch and ultimately license rights across Macmillan’s lists.

We are looking for someone with excellent knowledge of international publishing markets, the ability to pitch books, negotiate the best possible terms and to guide our authors on publishing decisions, as well as experience handling a wide range of sub rights. You must be well-organized, with a proven track record selling to a range of customers, excellent interpersonal skills and be able to prioritise tasks efficiently.

Skills and experience required:

  • Experience of selling rights within a publishing or agency environment
  • A strategic approach to estimating income, pitching and developing sales plans for titles across a broad range of subjects
  • Outstanding communication, sales and negotiation skills
  • Organised and able to collaborate, communicate and give feedback to internal colleagues, as well as publishers, authors, and agents, in a busy and exacting environment.
