Peer Review Manager - China

A leading international academic publisher which is currently reshaping their journal business is looking to recruit an ambitious publishing professional with a background in academic research to manage a team supporting the peer review process with a newly established team in their Beijing.The Peer review manager will be accountable for efficient peer review administration procedures using online peer review systems to research international experts suitable to act as peer reviewers for cutting edge biomedical research.

Reporting to the UK based Head of Reviewer Programmes, the Peer Review Manager will manage a team of Peer Review Specialists.  With the responsibility for recruitment, performance management and training of direct reports the Peer Review Manager will control resource allocation, ensuring the team works effectively and will prioritise to accommodate competing demands.  As such this position will suit someone with experience of monitoring team progress, performance management and team-building within a journals publishing environment.  Familiarity with process improvement principles would be a distinct advantage as delivery of increased capacity with minimal impact on head count is a standing objective.

This role is based in Beijing and the successful person will be educated to postgraduate qualification, PhD or equivalent in biomedical sciences and will have knowledge of, or experience in publishing and production processes and a knowledge and understanding of the process of journals peer review process. You will have experience of coaching, mentoring and adapting to others’ learning styles with the ability to drive improvements based on data analysis and evidence-based learning. Fluency in English language as well as Standard Chinese/Mandarin is essential as are exceptional organisation skills and the confidence to complete multiple tasks to deadlines.

Previous experience with online submission platforms such as ScholarOne Manuscripts or Editorial Manager would be an advantage, but full training is available.
