Brand Director, Penguin Classics (Penguin Press, 6-month FTC)

Penguin Press is looking for an innovative senior marketer join us as Brand Director, Penguin Classics on a 6-month FTC, covering a period of parental leave beginning in October 2022. This role offers a unique opportunity to work across the diverse scope of publishing from Penguin Press: from game-changing non-fiction, illustrated titles and poetry, Penguin Press is also home to the world-famous Penguin Classics. 

The Opportunity 

Reporting to the Marketing Director, you will spearhead the marketing for Penguin Classics in the consumer landscape, through retail channels, partnerships, brand campaigns and online. You will also: 

  • Develop and implement marketing strategy for the Penguin Classics brands and series publishing, as well as for newly published Classics titles: from acquisition to publication and beyond 

  • Devise creative and visually striking campaigns for high profile author brands and non-fiction titles across Press’ publishing imprints 

  • Take on some line-management responsibilities, as well as management of marketing colleagues on individual projects, and focused collaboration with mixed teams across Publicity, Editorial and Sales on a range of projects 

About you: 

  • Self-starter who can develop, and secure buy-in, for ideas from across the business  

  • Creative and commercially aware, with a passion for design and visual identity 

  • Thoughtful brand leader, engaged with culture beyond publishing  

  • Talented multi-tasker who can set direction and solve problems   

  • An understanding of the appeal and reach of Penguin Classics 

  • Capable team manager, who can develop talent and collaborate across teams
