Editor, Vintage Classics & Catalogue (7-month FTC)

We have a rare opportunity for an organised and creatively-driven Editor to temporarily join our Classics and Catalogue team in Vintage for a 7 month period, covering parental leave.

The Opportunity

The Vintage Classics and Catalogue team works across the division to ensure that the books we have published over the decades continue to resonate with today’s readers – be it through new reissues and publications, or by improving existing editions. With such a broad catalogue to publish across, the team operates in a fast-paced environment where organisation and great collaboration skills are key.

You will report to the Acting Editorial Director and, alongside them, you will oversee the publishing of a wide-range of titles across both the Classics and the Vintage backlist.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Devising publishing strategies for authors, books and new series from across our vast and diverse backlist of titles.
  • Overseeing multiple editorial processes to bring the team’s projects to successful publication.
  • Acquiring new projects for publication
  • Representing Vintage in author and agent-facing meetings
  • Liaising across the division with multiple departments to bring focus to titles we already have in the market.

What you’ll bring

You will be a passionate champion of classic literature with a creative ambition to drive your publishing in bold new directions. You will be a self-starter with an intricate understanding of editorial processes, ready to pitch your ideas and steer your vision through to publication. An appreciation of today’s classics market is welcomed, as you’ll be curious-minded and hungry to translate your knowledge of evolving trends into exciting new publishing opportunities.

We’ll need you to demonstrate:

  • Effective project management, with experience seeing a range of books from origination to publication,
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively to a wide range of people,
  • An ability to multitask and handle competing priorities,
  • Superb attention to detail.
