Marketing Director, Vintage (12-month FTC)

We are looking for a talented and driven marketing professional to take on a 12-month parental leave cover as Marketing Director for Vintage, to start in January 2023. The Marketing Director is responsible for leading campaign strategy as well as contributing to the overall strategy of the division as part of the Vintage Leadership Team. The Marketing Director ensures the marketing team develop targeted campaigns to generate the maximum possible consumer engagement and stimulate sales for titles and is accountable for performance and development of team.   

This position has four direct reports, and reports to the Deputy Managing Director, Vintage.

The Role 

  • Create the divisional marketing strategy, ensuring this is communicated to the marketing team 
  • Set the marketing budget and manage how the budget is allocated and spent and across all frontlist and catalogue campaigns 
  • Allocate and oversee all marketing campaigns for the division to ensure they are targeted, of high quality and come within budget, with particular focus on author brands 
  • Lead/contribute to campaign strategy for very high-profile authors 
  • Read and report on marketing views for potential acquisitions and create pitch strategies to win authors and attend pitch meetings with agents and authors  
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to set strategic prioritisation of our books and help define key focuses for the division, as part of the Vintage Leadership Team 
  • Provide audience and market-led feedback as part of the jacket design process 
  • Ensure the marketing team utilise data in order to report marketing effectiveness against benchmarks, while bringing audience-led focus, a growth mindset, diversity of thought and innovation into the department 
  • Ensure close collaboration between marketing and other teams (PR, Brand, Editorial, Design, Sales, International, Audience Insight and Penguin Brand) 
  • Ensure team works closely with sales to develop targeted retailer marketing strategies and maintain strong retailer marketing relationships 
  • Ensure team submit successful campaigns for trade awards and present campaigns/strategies at relevant conferences 
  • Responsible for delivery of Marketing D&I plans 
  • Set clear, SMART goals for direct reports, and ensure people managers in the team do the same. Regular management catch-ups with all direct reports examining goals, and key other areas such as work/life balance, workload, training and development and title allocation 
  • Manage strong relationship with Vintage’s media agency, as well as a roster of other key media agencies for booking media campaigns   

Candidate Profile

  • Previous senior management experience essential

  • Proven track record delivering high profile campaigns 
  • Highly experienced with and knowledgeable of digital media and landscape 
  • Familiarity/experience with Adobe Suite, self-service advertising platforms, social media monitoring tools and project management tools such as Trello 
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively to a wide range of people

Salary: £65,000 - £75,000 dependent on how your skills and experience align to the role, plus bonus and benefits.
