Production Buyer / Production Buying Manager

One of the most exciting independent publishers, focussed on creating beautiful and innovative illustrated books and gifts for children and adults, is looking for a knowledgeable production person to make an impact working across an innovative and exciting list of titles.

In this role you will have responsibility for sourcing, developing and purchasing for a broad category and range of formats. 

Key responsibilities: 

  • Negotiate costs and agree schedules with printers based in the Far East and Europe with the support of the Production Manager. 
  • Help, manage a list of formats across adult and children categories from costing through to purchase. 
  • Sourcing and developing a range of components
  • Supplier management in the UK, Europe and Far East and the ability to build successful working relationships. 
  • Quality control and ensuring factory audits are up to date. 
  • Keep abreast of safety legislations, to keep up to date with training and development. 
  • Collaborate with Sales teams regarding customer requirements - specifically schedules and packing requirements. 
  • Work closely with the Production team regarding upcoming orders, schedules and dummies with the sharing of relevant information. 
  • Maintaining and updating the database with all costs, including product, components, safety and shipping. 
  • Liaise with the studio regarding specifications and artwork ready dates. 
  • Ensure that dummies are ordered and, upon receipt, check that specs are correct before passing to the studio for approval. 
  • Identify and set up new procedures and contribute ideas to improve systems. 
  • Lead product development and innovation projects in collaboration with other departments. 

Skills & experiences:  

  • Experience in print buying. 
  • Experience of Far East and European printers. 
  • Experience in non traditional formats, Children’s Toy Directive and safety testing are desirable.
  • Confident using Microsoft Excel and database systems 

As an agile and confident communicator you are comfortable collaborating with internal teams, while also negotiating prices with printers. With a solid understanding of different formats and product specifications you have demonstrable experience of working with creative teams to bring products to life! 

Flexible hybrid working is available, with weekly/biweekly office days, at key publishing hubs (4-8 days per month).
