Production Editor (Academic Books)

An innovative independent publishing company based in the South West is looking for a production professional to join their expanding production team. This is an exciting time to join a growing company and develop your production career whilst working on a wide range of print and digital products.

Key duties:

• Project manage a list of titles from receipt of manuscript through to delivery of press-ready files
• Ensure books are produced on schedule, to budget, and to desired quality
• In-house proofreading and copy-editing of academic books
• Brief and manage freelance copyeditors, typesetters, and proofreaders
• Liaise closely with client publishing companies and authors
• Maintain and update production schedules

Experience / skills required:

• You will have prior experience in a book production role
• Experience of academic book production is highly desirable
• Copy-editing and/or proofreading experience on academic materials is highly desirable
• You will have excellent communication and organisation skills
• You will have a proven ability to work to deadlines and as part of team
• Some knowledge of digital publishing, including XML workflows, would be an advantage
