Production Manager - Trade Books

We have a superb opportunity for a Production Manager to supervise the production of all frontlist and reprint titles ensuring they are produced to the highest standard within the required schedule and budget.  This role will also deputise for the Production Director and assist where necessary.  You will supervise three Controllers and liaise with other departments on production matters.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Supervise and manage the Production Controllers in the team
  • Check costings on live projects to ensure production costs are correct
  • Attend weekly frontlist WIP meetings to ensure projects are running to schedule and circulate minutes of meeting
  • Intervene when a book  is ‘going off the rails’ to get the project back on track
  • Supply print prices for all English and foreign language reprints as required
  • Negotiate advance material and repro costs with suppliers
  • Negotiate freight costs with printers/shippers
  • Advise  editors, designers and production controllers re technical problems as necessary
  • Visit  printers in the UK and abroad to check quality of printing meets the highest standard and resolve any problems

This is an ideal opportunity for a production professional with experience of trade and/or children’s books to lead a busy friendly team. The successful person will have proven, relevant experience of the print production process from a trade publishing background.  You will have experience of managing or supervising staff, or have the ability to step up and manage a small team and if you have worked with children’s books, have some experience of safety testing.
