Desk Editor

We are looking to recruit a desk editor to work across all fiction and non-fiction imprints. The ideal candidate should have at least two years’ experience of desk editing in-house or be an established freelance copy-editor and proofreader, and should be familiar with track changes in Microsoft Word and editing tools in Adobe Acrobat. Some prior knowledge of Biblio, the publishing database software, would be an advantage. The position will support the head of managing editorial and one other managing editor. It requires someone who is organised, pays close attention to detail and is a good problem solver, as well as being an effective communicator.
Responsibilities will include:
- Updating and checking preliminary pages and content for paperback editions and offsets in consultation with the editor and author
- Maintaining a system for reprint corrections and ePub updates
- Copy-editing cover copy for paperbacks and helping with all cover copy
- Proofreading jackets and covers for sign off
- Proofreading marketing materials for errors as and when required
- Supporting the head of managing editorial and the managing editor with proof collations and checking revises to page proof
- Helping with any other requirements of the department
Depending on experience, this role can be flexible for full or part time and is a permanent position. Profile Books offer flexible working hours, with a requirement for full-time staff to be in the London office three days a week (part time employees pro rata).

Salary of £28,000-£30,000 dependant on experience (pro rata for part time hours). Benefits include 25 days holiday (rising to 30 days with length of service) plus bank holidays, pension, life assurance, annual bonus scheme for all employees.
