Editor, Profile Editions – Part-time (3 days)

Profile Editions is the UK’s leading custom publisher, creating both illustrated and non-illustrated books for businesses, cultural institutions, schools and colleges. We are a specialist division of award-winning independent publisher Profile Books.

We are looking for an experienced Editorial Assistant searching for the next move, ideally with experience of working on illustrated books and a working knowledge of InDesign. They will need to be highly organised, enthusiastic and flexible with excellent initiative and administrative skills. They will be proficient in Word and Excel.

This is a composite role, dealing with editorial, design and administration, working with our clients and assisting them at every point in their journey. The role is to assist in every part of the Profile Editions publishing process from the development of proposals and manuscripts to successful publication, and to provide general support to the Publishing Director.The role involves;

  • Managing submissions and other administrative work
  • Adding information to and generally maintaining the database
  • Drafting cover briefs
  • Drafting jacket and cover copy
  • Chasing authors and clients for material
  • With authors, clients and project managers, helping research and collate images
  • Clearing permissions for illustrations and copyright material and ordering in high-res images from picture agencies
  • Commissioning copyeditors, proofreaders and indexers and taking in corrections where necessary in both Word and InDesign
  • Reading and reporting on manuscripts and material submitted
  • Helping with author and client care
  • Sending out contractual copies to authors and clients
  • Representing and supporting titles and authors in-house
  • Preparing material for sales conference, marketing and sales meetings
  • Liaising with managing editors and production to ensure deadlines are met
  • Keeping track of client stock and contacting clients about charges
  • Scheduling brochures and creating first layout
  • Liaising with the client and mailing house about brochures
  • Assembling and uploading website material where necessary
  • Helping with launches where necessary
  • Helping with set-up for conferences
  • Providing other support to the PE team as needed
  • Creating meeting agendas and writing minutes for any meetings required

The role is part time (3 days per week) and based in Farringdon, London. We are currently working to a hybrid home/office model.

Salary of £30,000-£35,000 per annum (FTE), dependent on experience. Benefits include 25 days holiday (rising to 30 days with length of service) plus bank holidays (pro rata for part time employees), pension, life insurance, annual bonus scheme for all employees, working day 9.30am – 5.30pm Monday-Friday with flexible working agreements by arrangement.
