Editorial Assistant
Profile Books is one of the most successful independent publishers in the UK; on our award-winning imprints we publish internationally renowned names including Mary Beard, Shoshana Zuboff, Saidiya Hartman, Robert Greene, Ryan Holiday and the Murdle puzzle books.
We are seeking an editorial assistant to work on the Profile non-fiction list. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who loves books and wants to gain experience in trade publishing in a busy, friendly and stimulating environment.
Reporting to the Publisher, you will support senior editors in many parts of the editorial process, including reading and reporting on submissions and manuscripts, helping to develop manuscripts and pitches, administrative duties such as preparing materials for meetings, author liaison, permissions and picture research support, endorser outreach and mailings, adding and maintaining excellent bibliodata, producing AIs and cover briefs, and copywriting.
To be successful in the role, you will need to be a voracious reader and a fluent writer, interested in the business of books and able to analyse how readers respond to them. You’ll be creative, reliable, organised, meticulous, a confident communicator, good at taking the initiative and able to keep a clear head when work gets busy. We strive to be a supportive and collegiate workplace that recognises and fosters excellence, driven by a love of readers, writers and ideas.
The role is full-time (35 hours pw), Monday–Friday, based in Farringdon, London. We ask employees to commit to a minimum of 60% attendance in the office.
Salary: £29,000 per annum, depending on experience. We offer many other workplace benefits including a generous holiday allowance, annual bonus scheme, life assurance and pension scheme. Profile strives to be an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from candidates of any background who have relevant experience and skills. Please let us know of any reasonable adjustments you may require when attending an interview. We offer expenses for travel to London to attend interviews.
