Project Editor (Maternity Cover)

Do you have solid editorial experience of managing illustrated publishing book projects? We have a fantastic opportunity for a Project Editor to join a leading trade publisher in Oxford. You will be managing a varied list of special interest titles across a growing Nautical list, from manuscript to publication. This is a full time role based in their Oxford office for a period of up to 1 year to cover maternity.

Key duties:

  • Manage a list from handover of manuscript to publication
  • Copy edit and proofread manuscripts
  • Maintain schedules and budgets for projects and taking titles through to publication, including ebooks
  • Brief in-house and freelance designers and illustrators on cover designs, text designs and specific artwork projects
  • Check all page proofs for layout and content. Liaising with authors and proofreaders, collating comments and ensuring final files are ready for press, on schedule and within budget
  • Write cover and marketing copy as required
  • Maintain and update company-wide data management and digital asset management systems

Experience / skills required:

  • Editorial experience in illustrated/trade book publishing
  • Excellent proofreading and copy editing skills with meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritise and use their own initiative, juggling several projects
  • Basic knowledge of InDesign, Quark, Photoshop and Illustrator and Biblio 3
