Publications & Communications Administrator – London Mathematical Society

The London Mathematical Society is looking for a Publications and Communications Administrator (PCA) to provide support to both the Society Business and Publications teams in the dissemination of Society scholarly and non-scholarly publications, and also in support of Society engagement with membership, the community and general public.

For 60% of the role, the PCA will work closely with the Head of Society Business and the Society Communications Officer (SCO) to provide support for communications across the Society as well as other areas of work within the Society Business Team. For 40% of the role, the PCA will provide support for the Society Publications Team working closely with the Editorial Manager and the Publications Development Manager. The main responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the SCO in all communications, including e-updates, social media and website
  • Collation and editing of Society publications under the remit of communications
  • Organising and attending Society events or other events as required
  • Preparing agenda and papers for the Steering Group and taking minutes
  • Administering the annual Society Summer School programme and Bursaries scheme and Annual Dinner arrangement
  • Organising Editorial and other meetings regarding publications strategy and communications
  • Updating records and monitoring overdue and delayed papers
  • Providing administrative support for editors as necessary
  • Ensuring the Society’s Homepage and events web pages are up to date
  • Gathering data and compiling market analysis to use in strategic development
  • Production of the Society’s annual Publications Catalogue.

The successful candidate will have solid experience in general communications and computer-based administrative office work. Experience of sophisticated data management systems is essential, and experience of, or a keen interest in, STM or academic publishing is required. You will have knowledge of journal peer review practices and of basic HTML mark-up and other publications and website software. Excellent attention to detail, record-keeping and organisational skills are essential.

You will be rewarded with a competitive salary, depending on experience, between £29,565 – £34,301 (including London Weighting and Travel Allowance) + Benefits.
