Publisher, Brands and Licensing (12m FTC)

The Publisher is a senior member of the Brands & Licensing Team with shared accountability for the overall strategy, goals, P&L and commercial performance of the Brands and Licensing Division. 

The Publisher has shared responsibility for the reputation of Egmont UK as a leading children’s publishing specialist through creative excellence, sales, marketing and PR excellence, effective business support and outstanding relationship management.  

Core responsibilities

Working with the Publishing Director and the Acquisitions Director, the Publisher will:

  • Lead the creative, commercial, and P&L strategy and considerations for the team for allocated lists.

  • Spot, assess, model and propose new rights opportunities and lead these opportunities through pitch to implementation

  • Deliver best in class & market leading IP management, always looking to bring a fresh new approach to publishing and the way we do business

  • Contribute expertise and experience to all department team and working group discussions

  • Represent the B&L Team both internally and externally. 

  • Devise and implement brand and publishing plans for all nominated brands in line with the B&L department strategic plan, calling on expertise gained in licensed publishing and broad portfolio management.

  • Give clear briefs and collaborate openly with B&L Editorial & Design team to ensure covers and content are​ commercial and consistently of a high quality across the list.

  • Maintain, encourage and demand the highest standards of licensor management and creative excellence.

Skills and Experience required:

  • Negotiation experience​ – delivering win-win solutions in terms of programme planning with IP owners & commercial terms

  • Experience of running P&Ls & proven ability to maximise profitability

  • Experience of list management

  • Experience of managing publishing strategy and range projects to deliver on time and on budget

  • Proven strategic planning skills

  • Forecasting & budgeting experience

  • Commercial analysis skills – using market data to inform publishing decisions at list and title level – using market data to spot trends and opportunities

  • Understanding of book market, with proven experience of using Bookscan, Consumer Insight & available data to make strong publishing decisions

  • Understanding & experience of price, formats, creative costs to deliver on KPIs for individual books and at list level

  • Experience of skilfully managing large business relationships

  • Intermediate level PowerPoint & Excel skills

  • Proven presentation & communication skills

  • Great interpersonal skills to be able to work with many stakeholders
